BLACKFIELD & Langley bosses Tony Feeney and Andy Price are making sure they have all bases covered for tomorrow's relegation cliffhanger at Alton Town.

Although the Watersiders will have eyes only for their own game, their ears will be tuned in for news of fellow strugglers Whitchurch United's progress at Christchurch.

Blackfield go into a nail-biting last day holding a two-point advantage over the north Hampshire cellar-dwellers and the stage is set for a fraught finale as they battle to beat the drop back into county football.

Feeney is despatching one of his ex-players down to Hurn Bridge, armed with a mobile phone, to keep him touch with events in the Forest.

He said: "I think it's important because we might need to change our tactics depending on what's happening down there. We may want make some substitutions to go all out for a goal or maybe shore up midfield and hang on to what we've got."

Frustratingly, Blackfield missed some great chances in Monday's 0-0 draw with Cowes Sports and Feeney confessed: "We're kicking ourselves because it should have been all over by now.

"But that's the first time we've gone three games undefeated all season and if you'd said a few weeks back we'd go into our last match two points ahead of Whitchurch, we'd have taken that."

While Christchurch's results have been patchy of late, Alton enjoyed a bumper six-point Easter, whipping Bournemouth 6-1 and then beating Moneyfields 3-1 at Anstey Road.

"They're always tough to beat and I expect the pitch is very bobbly, but we've got to be patient and keep our discipline," said Feeney.

Unfortunately for Blackfield, influential midfielder Wayne Oakley is suspended and new signing Max Hawkins must also sit it out. The luckless former Hamble midfielder went on as a sub against Cowes and broke his ankle after just ten seconds.
