BAR Formula 1 team aerodynamicist Willem Toet celebrated the acquisition of a four-litre V8 640bhp Pilbeam single seater racecar by setting the best time of the day in both recent hillclimb events at Gurston Down.

His Sunday time was only half a second off the unlimited capacity racing car class record, a superb result in an unfamiliar car and in cool conditions.

Wimborne's Tim Stevens twice reset his own up-to-two-litre modified production marque sports car class record in his 1.8 Lotus Exige.

Meanwhile, the up-to-1400cc modprod sports car class was dominated by Hayling Island's Berry Dracup in a bike-powered 0.9 Westfield Megablade, while former Gurston champion Andy Russell from Alresford won in his 1.1 Ginetta G15.

In the 2000cc modprod saloon class, Colin Satchell got the jump on Verwood's Andy Bascombe in his 2.0 Escort Mk 2 RS on the Saturday, but Bascombe came through for the win the next day although he was run close by perennial rival Mike Rudge.

The fraught up-to-2000cc modprod sports car class went to Terry Luff, just five hundredths of a second ahead of Poole's Andrew Forsyth.

Saturday's over-2000cc modprod saloon class was the tussle of the turbos as Andover's Jeremy Horsham whistled his 1.8 Nissan 200SX to the win from the boosted 2.0 Renault 21 of New Milton's Richard Hillyar by two thirds of a second.

Andover's Geoff Hunt did the double in the 'historically interesting class' with his immaculate 1.6 Lotus 22 single seater.

The up-to-2000cc sports libre class saw Tim Daniel from Newbury taking the win on Saturday in his 2.0 Vision V91 by a quarter of a second from Fareham's Paul Webster aboard his 2.0 Pulsar. But Webster turned the tables next day, setting a personal best to win by almost four tenths of a second.

The eagerly-awaited debut of the twin-engined 2.5 Force SR8 of Salisbury's Chris Cannell and Sue Hayes in the over-2000cc sports libre class saw Cannell powering to a double win.

Totton's Duncan Barnes ran out the winner of the 1100cc class on Sunday in his 1.0 Force 12 and dominant drives from Lymington's Peter Sexton in his 1.4 OMS saw wins and impressive times on both days in the up-to-1600cc racing car class.

Father and son Mike and Nik Gregory from Stockbridge got to grips with their former outright hill record-holding 4.0 Pilbeam MP58, Mike taking second in class on Saturday and Nik going sub-30 on Sunday.

Next event at Gurston Down is the British Hillclimb Championship and British Hillclimb Leaders Championship on May 24 and 25.
