A LANDMARK Chandler's Ford store is set to disappear from the local scene.
F H Dean, the popular hardware and agricultural merchants store, will be swept away to make way for 59 flats in Hursley Road.
Councillors have given the green light for Banner Homes to develop the site next to the Park Surgery.
The flats of three and four storeys will be in two blocks and the sheltered accommodation will include a flat for a warden.
There will also be parking for 61 cars.
When the store closes its doors it will be the end of a trading link with the area which stretches back nearly 100 years.
Proprietor Roger Dean, who has lived in the area all his life, emphasised that the store would continue trading for several months.
He said: "We will see the season through. We won't close at least until the end of August."
