Wellington Social 2 Bramley United 2
SATURDAY'S result at Winklebury leaves the Basingstoke and District League title race wide open after New Inn could only draw 1-1 with Oakley Athletic on Wednesday evening.
Bramley threw away a two-goal lead against a Wellington side who were below strength. There were chances for both sides early on. Mickie Costen received a good pass from Darren Bartlett, only to see his shot hit the crossbar.
Martin Campbell lost out in a one-on-one with Jason Charles before Bramley took the lead after 20 minutes. Tony Dixon made a quick break to side-foot past Charles from 10 yards. Bramley went two goals ahead three minutes later.
Charles' clearance kick was chested down by Nathan Wigglesworth and, wind-assisted, it flew into the net.
Welly pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute with a Costen penalty, awarded for handball.
By the 65th minute, Welly were level with Costen scoring again, this time from a corner by Darren Bartlett.
With reserve players Jeff Hance and Darren Gillbanks playing well, Wellington almost snatched victory when Costen hit the bar again with a 25-yarder.
New Inn meet Wellington tomorrow evening and they certainly cannot afford to slip up as they did last Wednesday at Newfound, where a goal from Jason McDine cancelled out a Lee Martyn Oakley goal.
- Labour Club called off their game against New Inn but, as it involves the championship, it has been re-scheduled for next Monday.
Tylney Hall 8, Lamb Inn 1
Lamb, after losing 7-4 in mid-week to New Inn Reserves, were humiliated at Brighton Hill by 10-men Tylney in the champions' final division one match of the season.
The first half ended 1-1. Paul Ferla netted the first of his five goals after 15 minutes by out-pacing the Lamb back four. In the 30th minute, Darren Allen back-headed short and in nipped Adrian Logan to equalise.
With a wind advantage in the second half, it was all Tylney and Ferla completed his hat-trick with two quick goals.
Ferla laid on the fourth for Andy Ramsden before scoring himself from another long pass over the top to round 'keeper Phil Jarrett.
Then Ramsden beat Jarrett before Ferla netted his fifth.
Close to time, Phil Pike laid on an easy tap-in for Paul Adams.
South Ham Rangers 2 Silchester United 1
Rangers' third win in a row ensures fourth in the table and, with Bramley United likely to move into the North Hants League next season, a premier division place beckons.
The victory was marred by Alan Mathews having to go to hospital with three broken bones in his foot when it was 0-0. It was the 42nd minute before his side took the lead.
Dave Yates lobbed forward and James Cowen finished off. Just before half-time, Silchester equalised from a Jamie West penalty.
The 57th minute winner also came from a spot-kick. Olly Davies was floored in the box and Dave Yates made no mistake. After this, Richard Spiers had a good chance and a Davies shot bounced over the bar.
Oakley Athletic Res 1 Kingsclere Res 3
A first win since December for Allan Doig's Kingsclere was not enough to lift them off the bottom in division two, although a win against AFC Aldermaston A tomorrow evening would get them out of trouble.
Oakley went in front after 25 minutes but, just before half-time, Roger Jones' good centre saw Andy Evans slam home.
Mark Doig headed in an Eddy Grantham corner to put Kingsclere in front and their third came from Craig Tordoff, who beat the 'keeper one-on-one, his shot going in off the post.
