BADMINTON: BH PEGASUS women completed a division 4B double over Loddon in the Castlegate Investments-sponsored Basingstoke and District League.
In a 5-1 win at North Foreland Lodge, Wendy Heywood and Lynn White were the only home pair to win a rubber while Emmy Davies/Norma Scott won three for Pegasus, supported by two from Jean Deverill/Heather Wilkins.
The result means that Pegasus women's teams have a good chance of winning both division 4B and division six.
A 6-3 home defeat by Firefly means Andover Sports C are now third in men's division two, six points behind Aldermaston with a match in hand. The Andover B side are almost certain to take the top promotion place.
Each of the home pairs, Steve Webb/John Weston, Phil Pike/Dave Keep and Colin Pink/Gary Leach won two rubbers.
Ian Swatton and Chris Clarke won three for Firefly.
An Alresford team of Bob Thirkell/Scott Page, Adrian Tyrell/ Marc Page and Gary Masters/Nigel Butcher, completed their programme in division four with a 9-0 victory over Phoenix B. After narrowly missing promotion a year ago, Alresford went through the season undefeated.
Mixed division one is completed except for the match between Basingstoke Council and Andover Sports B. A 6-3 defeat of BH Pegasus A at Basingstoke Sports Centre confirmed Viking A as champions with a total of 68 points.
James Bevis/Alison Foy and Richard Whatley/Jane Halls each won their three for Viking A, with each of the home pairs, Andy Lang/Aun Murthy, Daniel Harvey/Kim Newman and John and Pauline Davis winning one each.
Beechdown A managed to squeeze into third place even although they were beaten 5-4 at home by second-placed Andover Sports A.
Daniel Soper-Dyer/Helen Marston won a maximum for the winners, with the other two rubbers coming from Emerson Cumberbatch/Sandra McDonald.
Neil Marie/Madge Cummings won two rubbers for the home side with Peter Seward/Sandra Smith and Mick Cummings/Kate Marlow contributing one each.
Beechdown A and BH Pegasus A finished level on 48 points but Beechdown claimed third place after winning 112 games, one more than Pegasus.
Although Loddon beat a two-pair Firefly side 7-2 in division three, they will still finish bottom of the table.
Phil Hood/Lee Timperley won two rubbers for Loddon, supported by one each from Richard Burt/ Lynn White and Mark Gentry/ Wendy Heywood. Phil Pike/Penny McGowan and Steve Webb/Nicola Weston took one each for the visiting losers.
Phoenix A finished their 10 matches in the division with 61 points. Sherpas, with one match to play against Beechdown B, have 56 points and could still take the title.
Steve Gaunt and Judith Lillis were the only winners for Basing Cavaliers in an 8-1 defeat at Whitchurch in division five.
This victory assured the Whitchurch side of Stuart Gordon/Vivienne Hazell, Dave Cooley/Linda Jones and John Aiken/Jenny Robins of the top promotion spot with 65 points.
Rotherwick take second place with 59 points following a 9-0 defeat of a two-pair Waverley B team at Rotherwick.
Ken Farebrother/Tina Dentith, Nigel Hunt/Debbie Black-more and Dave Hiscock/Michelle Hamilton were the wining pairs.
A week earlier, Waverley B accounted for Beechdown D 6-3 at Winchester Road. Phil Quinn/Chris Fowler won three rubbers for Waverley B, supported by two from Clive Mountford/Sally Holmes and one from Ray Rich/Heather Mountford.
The losers' points were scored by Ian Simpson/Debbie McGeachy (2) and Mark Bowles/Sue Sheppard.
