John Crawley will open the batting when Hampshire take on Glamorgan in Cardiff in their second championship game tomorrow.
Jimmy Adams is playing for Loughborough UCCE against Surrey so drops out.
But seamer Chris Tremlett is fit and may come in for Ed Giddins who was off the field receiving treatment yesterday at Worcester after taking a blow to the ribs from a Nantie Hayward delivery in the first innings.
Wasim Akram is suffering from a few aches and pains after his first first class game for 15 months, but should play as Hampshire aim to build on yesterday's draw at Worcestershire.
Crawley, who opened the batting during the pre-season games, said: "Alex Morris is looking like the favourite to come in for Jimmy but I'll open the batting, we'll just move up the order one with Alex in at five.
"It's a big ask, especially this early in the season against a decent quality attack, for young guys to come in and open.
"As captain it's the best possible thing for the side.
"Obviously Jimmy is an opener through and through but he's not available, so we have to do what's best for the team - it's quite a simple decision.
"Mentally opening is different but I was in in the first couple of overs anyway. If I had an ultimate choice I would prefer to go in at three but the team is bigger than individuals."
Crawley, pictured, scored an aggregate of 160 runs at Worcester in his first game as captain - his first fifties since the opening Ashes Test in Brisbane.
He added: "It was good game of cricket but we didn't take our half chances and at times we didn't bat as well as we could.
"Throughout the four days we still had a chance of winning which was quite positive.
Nic Pothas was outstanding in both innings which was brilliant to see after a below standard season for him last year.
"And the fact that we went into the last hour with a good chance of winning having under-performed in certain areas is a good thing.
"When we get it all right we'll be winning some games - our philosophy this year is to push as hard as we can to win."
Now it's Glamorgan, who were also chasing 314 to win yesterday before finishing on 253 for seven against Derbbyshire at Derby.
Crawley added: "A lot depends on the pitch. I haven't played at Sophia Gardens for many a year. The game was always at Colwyn Bay when I was with Lancashire so we'll have to see what turns up.
"They're normally a competitve side. They have compettive individuals in Maynard and Croft so we'll have to negate their strengths.
"We've had a good start. It would have been nice to take 20 points from Worcestershire but that's in the past.
"There are a couple of doubts. Ed is struggling to bowl but we're not that worried.
"'Was' hasn't played a long game like this for a long time so it's a shock to his system but we're hopeful that we can use him sensibly and get something out of him."
