POLICE had to close a section of the main A326 road near Hythe at the weekend for about an hour because of yet another forest fire.
The alarm was raised in an area of Fawley Enclosure which has become renowned for suspicious fires - there were five on one weekend recently - shortly before 10am and about 24 firefighters from Hardley, Hythe and Beaulieu dashed to the scene.
Because the smoke was so intense, police closed the road between the Heath Roundabout at Dibden Purlieu and the Hardley Roundabout.
Gradually the firefighters got the better of the situation and the fire was extinguished in just under an hour.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman appealed to parents to hammer home the message to their children regarding the dangers of fires.
On Thursday, three picnickers had to be airlifted to safety by helicopter near Verwood in Dorset when a forest fire, believed to have been started by children, swept towards them.
In the same incident, which was partly dealt with by Hampshire firefighters, two others were rescued on a fire appliance.
