Matt Blackey suffered a nightmare finish in the Algarve Portguese Open at Vale do Lobo yesterday afternoon.
The European Tour campaigner, who now lives in Southampton, was poised for his best-ever finish when a trio of early birdies pushed him up into a tie for fifth place.
But Blackey, who needs a big cheque to give himself a chance of retaining his card, threw away shots at an alarming rate coming down the finishing straight.
Six went in the last six holes, including a double bogey at the 481-yard 14th and Blackey slipped down into 23rd place at five over par
Sweden's Frederik Jacobson won his second tournament of the season at five under, one ahead of a three-way tie involving Bradley Dredge, Jamie Donaldson and Brian Davis.
Stewart Cink claimed sole possession of the lead after the third round of The Heritage with a two-under-par 69 at a windy Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.
The 2000 champion, Cink began the day in a tie for the lead with Hal Sutton but overcame two bogeys with four birdies to finish the day on 12 under at 201, a stroke ahead of hard-charging Jeff Sluman.
Thanks to a string of four straight birdies on the back nine, Sluman had the lowest round of the day with a 64 that left him alone in second. He hit every fairway and missed just two greens in the third round.
Woody Austin and Kenny Perry share third spot on 203, a shot better than four-time Heritage champion Davis Love III, Chad Campbell, left-hander Steve Flesch and Sutton.
