Solent Stars junior women were the club's only representatives to progress through to the Final Fours.

They edged out East Durham 57-54 in a one-off match at Nottingham Trent University after England Basketball had ditched the idea of a home and away play-off to reduce travelling expenses.

The first quarter was a tense, even affair wit Solent scoring the last five points of the quarter, including a buzzer-beating shot from Holly Over, to move into a two-point lead.

They were six ahead at half-time, but by the fourth minute of the third quarter East Durham had fought back to level.

Solent responded with a full-court press, resulting in two steals and breakaway lay-ups for Rosie Chase, which gave them a five-point lead.

Led by England international Charlotte Heron, Solent opened up a 13-point lead with four minutes to play.

Inexplicably they switched off, allowing Durham to claw back to within a point with 20 seconds remaining.

But two successful free throws from Solent captain Jodi Jerram clinched a semi-final against Northants Lightning - a team they have already lost three times to this season.

The winners of that game will play either Essex Swifts or Ellesmere Port Panthers in the final.

All games will be played at RAF Cosford on Sunday, May 4.

Solent scorers: Charlotte Heron 18, Rosie Chase 9, Jodi Jerram 9, Holly Over 8, Natalie Broom 6, Niciola Scrivener 5, Stevie Ellis 2.

l Stars' cadet women failed to reach the Final Fours for the second successive year with a 57-53 defeat at Haringey.

Their cause was not helped by the absence of neutral referees as Haringey failed to provide the necessary officials. The game went ahead under protest with two Haringey club officials in charge.

Although the first quarter ended with the teams level at 12-12, fouls were called on Solent's more influential players, forcing them to the bench for considerable periods.

In the second quarter, Stars' "twin towers" Nicola Scrivener and Charlotte Heron were forced to watch for long periods as Haringey built up an eight-point lead by half-time.

Solent trailed by 11 going into the final period but dominated the final ten minutes.

Solent scorers: Nicola Scrivener 28, Charlotte Heron 9, Jodi Jerram 7, Chloe McEwen 3, Rachel Almond 2, Bianca Dilworth 2, Becky Carr, Holly Over 1.

Solent Cadet men went crashing out of the play-offs 80-58 against London Towers.

They sorely missed their captain, Jack Holmar, who had sprained both wrists in training.

And Matt Guymon, their star guard, was below par after tonsilitis.

Solent scorers: Guymon 20, Titcombe 10, Josey 10, Teesdale 5, Laryea 4, Young 4, Glasspool 3, Kenchenten 2.
