ORGANISERS of learning courses for adults say they are delighted by the response from people throughout Hampshire.

Hundreds of people have so far benefited from the courses, which are run by the Basic Skills Support Unit and funded jointly by The Learning and Skills Council for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and the European Social Fund.

The courses offer people the chance to take step-up courses allowing adult learners to improve their numeracy and literacy skills through a range of courses such as interior design, garden design, IT, genealogy and healthy living.

Maggie Cochran, a tutor at St Vincent's College in Gosport where some of the courses take place, said: "These courses have really captured the imagination of learners across Hampshire and made essential skills accessible to all.

"I have been running an interior design course where learners have improved their English and maths skills at the same time as designing a room in their house."
