Winchester & District AC's Michaela McCallum had the honour of finishing second British woman to new world record holder Paula Radcliffe in the Flora London Marathon.
Nearly 20 Winchester runners took part, but it was McCallum who stole the show with a magnificent run of 2hrs 41mins and 57 seconds to cross the line as first veteran lady and 16th woman overall in an international field.
"Being an elite woman, she ran much of the race on her own, but thoroughly enjoyed the support of the spectators," said WDAC team manager Alan Coveney. "If she is able to run with others in future, she feels she would be able to go faster."
The second club runner home was George Hide in 2.45.53, while Paul Sidaway ran a pb of just over 2.50.
Other times: Conan Fryer (3.13), Bill Reid (3.16), Tony Britten (3.17), Jonathan Kane (vet-60, 3.24), Steve Goodwin and Malcolm Leatherdale (3.29), Ken Hardcastle (3.37), Jan Spring (3.52), Karen Hazlitt and Fiona Kelly (3.58) David Regan (4.38) and Dale Lush (4.29).
The previous week, three club runners competed in the Paris Marathon. Hampshire League road champion Bev Edwards clocked 3.03 and behind her came Gareth Hardman in 3.19 and Paul Hammond in 3.21.
In the Connemara Marathon, Paul Whitcombe ran a good time of 3.03.
Winchester & District meet for a social run on Wednesdays at the River Park Creche (7pm). Ring Alan Coveney on 01962 882719.
