VOLUNTARY organisations across the borough are better off after Fareham council awarded a total of £8,204 through its community grants programme. A new street art project for youngsters organised by the X-Perience centre in Fareham has got off to a flying start with a £500 donation.

"A few people who don't get the benefit of hearing aids really notice the difference our special radio transmitter receivers make."

Recreation facilities at Portchester Community School are also in line for a face-lift after the council gave £750 to the project.

Fareham leader, Councillor Sean Woodward said: "I am delighted that the council is able to continue to support so many of the borough's local voluntary and community groups through its community grants programme. We look forward to seeing what a difference the grants make to each group and to hearing from other groups who think they would benefit from a grant in the future."
