CHILDREN at a Southampton school have designed a special road safety sign to be erected near a busy stretch of road.
Southampton City Council has put up the sign on a footpath near the Mansbridge Road and Wide Lane mini-roundabout, Mansbridge.
A design competition for the sign was organised by the council's Road Safety Team and Mansbridge Primary School.
The sign is designed to deter children from running dangerously straight down a set of steps and over a zebra crossing.
School pupils put their artistic talents to the test and the ideas of three budding artists were then selected for the final design.
Jan Parkin, road safety officer at Southampton City Council, said: "It has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and wonderful designs for the new sign. "
She added: "It all helps to get the message across about being safety conscious during their journeys to and from school."
