Jenny Handscombe gave the Winchester Association of Women Graduates an entertaining account of her charity walk in Costa Rica last year.
Having seen a poster advertising a sponsored walk to raise money for the Kids charity which works with disabled children and their families, she decided to apply for a place.
After a short training session in the Brecon Beacons in January, in driving rain and a force 10 gale, she joined a gym to improve her fitness and, two months later, arrived in Costa Rica.
Of her 10 days there, four were spent walking, doing about 25 miles a day in extreme heat, through jungle, rivers and along beaches. The group spent the night in basic shelters and were given plain but good fresh food.
The country itself, the walks and the excellent guides, made a great impression on Jenny and although not all of the group's members might be inspired to follow her example, they were extremely interested to hear about her experiences.
