The Leukaemia Busters Grand Annual Ball, "Hawaiian Heaven", is taking place at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton, on Friday, May 2nd.

The event will raise much-needed funds for Leukaemia Busters - the children's leukaemia research charity based in Southampton.

Among those attending the ball will be Leukaemia Busters patrons, Gary and Michelle Lineker, and fund-raising presidents, David and Thorunn Gower.

They will join over 250 guests, including the mayor and mayoress of Southampton and the new Thai Ambassador, His Excellency Khun Vikrom Koompirochana.

Channel 4 television presenter and former captain of Hampshire Cricket Club, Mark Nicholas, will conduct the grand auction, which has as its star lot a fabulous holiday at the Hilton Waikoloa Hotel, Hawaii.

Guests at the ball will receive a complimentary Hawaiian Cocktail and be welcomed in the traditional Hawaiian way with hula dancers.

All proceeds from the evening will go directly into Leukaemia Busters' Cure for All fund which is being used to develop new antibody-based drugs for children with currently incurable forms of leukaemia.

Pioneering clinical trials with two drugs developed in the past with Leukaemia Busters' funding are now under way in 13 cancer centres around Britain and donations from this event will help to support these groundbreaking studies, made possible only by years of intensive research and the support of people and companies from around the South.

The research is led by the honorary scientific directors of Leukaemia Busters, Dr David Flavell and his wife Dr Sopsamorn (Bee) Flavell, who tragically lost their only son, Simon, to the disease 13 years ago.

"Besides the entertainment the whole purpose of the night is to raise funds for the charity's Cure for ALL Campaign", explained Dr David Flavell.

"Since our last ball, we have become the first organisation in the country to treat children with relapsed leukaemia with an antibody-based drug. To continue with our vital and potentially life-saving work, we need to continue raising funds. The proceeds from this ball will help us directly in the quest to save young lives."
