The parents of one of Hampshire's most promising young motorcyclists, killed in a road accident, say they have been overwhelmed by tributes.

Guy Farbrother (18), from Wonston, had been tipped as a future world superbike champion.

He was killed when his 250cc Honda collided with a car on the Old Stoke Road, Sutton Scotney, near Winchester, on Monday, March 31st.

Last year, Guy was selected from hundreds of applicants to ride for the Red Bull Rookies works team, gaining fourth, third and second places before taking the first win of his senior career at Thruxton - with his family cheering him over the line.

Even though he missed four races after breaking his collarbone, Guy finished sixth in the championship in his first season.

Holy Trinity Church at Wonston was packed for Guy's funeral. His parents, Gerald and Linda, said: "We have been very moved by the kind and lovely messages of condolence, floral tributes and by the donations to the Automobile Cycle Union Benevolent Fund.

"Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who contributed in this way and to those who attended the funeral."

Robin Appleyard, Red Bull Rookies team manager, said: "Guy was a truly nice young man with the world at his feet. The Rookies crew and motorcycle racing have lost a true talent and a great competitor."
