SOUTHAMPTON'S rising music stars go head-to-head on Good Friday for the grand final of the search for the city's next superstar.

Scores of performers entered Urban Flava 2003, and heats took place at the African Caribbean Centre in Trinity Road, the setting for some of Craig David's earliest performances.

Following the semi-final, the six best entrants will perform on Friday at a suite at the St Mary's stadium, with the winner having the chance of a stab at fame.

They will record a track at Southampton Institute's studio with the help of its First Degree Records Label.

Among the guests at the final will be Radio 1 DJs Scott Mills and DJ Spoony.

The contest has featured a range of Mcs, rappers and groups and has been arranged by the BBC's Roots Project in conjunction with the institute and the centre.

Tickets are £5.50 for the final, which runs from 8.30pm to 1am, and are available from Tripp 2 Records in the Bargate Centre or at the stadium's reception on the night.
