Brett Ormerod insists he is NOT certain of his place in the FA Cup final - despite being the main hero in the semi.
The 26-year-old striker scored one - his first goal away from St Mary's all season - and set up the other on Sunday as Saints defeated Watford 2-1 to book their place in May's FA Cup final with Arsenal.
But the £1.75m hitman, who was named man of the match by Sky Sports for his excellent all round display, confessed: "Even though I scored I'm definitely not guaranteed my place in the final. The strength of the squad we've got this year is huge and there are other strikers on the bench and others who might be fit for the final.
"That's the way it is this year, but it keeps pushing the team forward and is part of the reason we've been successful.
"So from my point of view there's everything to play for in the last six league games.
"To be sure of a place in the final you have to perform over the next six games and that's very important to everyone in the team."
Ormerod had not scored in his last 23 appearances for Saints before Sunday but is now hoping to get on a scoring run as he did in October when he netted six times in the space of a month.
That run began with a Worthington Cup triple against Tranmere in only his third start of the season.
Three days later he struck twice to give Saints a 2-0 St Mary's win against Manchester City. His sixth goal was in the 4-2 home win against Fulham on October 27 - 167 days before his semi-final header.
Next up for Saints is an Easter weekend Premiership double header against Leeds and Birmingham.
And the Blackburn-born striker insists Saints will be concentrating on their remaining league games before thinking too hard about the final.
"I don't think anyone is relishing playing Southampton anymore, especially at St Mary's," said Ormerod. "We've only lost two league games so far at home so nobody relishes coming and playing us and hopefully we'll keep that going and finish the end of the season as high as possible.
"Right now we have to take each game as it comes and we're not thinking about the final yet.
"We prepared for Watford as we would do for Arsenal or Man United and we need to prepare right for each game we have left."
He added: "We had a great run over Christmas and we are now unbeaten in the league again over the last few games.
"We have gone a goal or two down recently but have shown a resilience.
"And, but for a late goal against West Ham, we would have been seventh. One or two more wins and we'll be right back up there."
Saints have only won one of their last seven league matches, but are unbeaten in their last six Premiership and FA Cup outings.
