Pupils at Stockbridge's Test Valley School were devastated after thieves stole their uniforms and GCSE coursework.
A few items were found dumped in nearby bushes and a large quantity was recovered on Lord Romsey's Broadlands estate - but some of property is still missing.
Thieves struck while 12 Year 10 pupils were walking on the National Trust-owned Stockbridge Down as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
Uniforms, shoes, coursework and house keys were taken from a car owned by one of the pupil's parents.
A member of the public found school bags and uniforms near Lee Lane, about a mile south of Romsey, and told the police.
Test Valley head, Wendy Morrish, said: "Pupils are delighted to get their things back."
