Police are trying to track the movements of a Winchester man found dead in the city centre early on Wednesday. Stephen Prangle was found in the corridor of a flat in Fabers Yard, off Staple Gardens.

Police say two women and four men in the flat tried to revive him, but Mr Prangle (37), of Fivefields Road, Highcliffe, was dead when they arrived.

On Wednesday, neighbours and people in the flat at the time were being questioned by police. The first-floor flat was sealed off.

The incident comes a month after Brian Butt (58) was stabbed outside his home in Fabers Yard.

Detectives are now appealing for people who saw Mr Prangle on Tuesday to contact them. His body was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, where a post mortem was due to be carried out yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said the circumstances of Mr Prangle's death were still being investigated. She did not rule out the possibility that it might have been a drug overdose.
