Over 400 students were joined by members of staff, governors and guests for the Southampton Institute Student Sports awards at Ikon on Monday night.

The successful evening was sponsored by STA Travel, who are regular supporters of the institute.

The standing of the institute within university sporting circles is ever improving and this was reinforced by the vast array of trophies and medals attained throughout the year.

Medals won in British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) events were reawarded to successful contestants, and annual colours were awarded in over 20 sports.

In addition prizes for internal tournaments were handed out, and the presentations culminated with Oscar-style awards in a number of categories.

Men's cricket - third place in national BUSA Indoor tournament) .

The institute's principal, Dr Roger Brown, spoke of the important role that sport plays in the student experience, and celebrated an event which could attract over 400 students with common interests.
