Trials will shortly begin on a satellite-based vehicle location system in south Hampshire.
The equipment will be trialled over three months by Solent Blue Line, who will initially monitor the exact location of one bus and its on-time performance.
"We shall be able to monitor the vehicle's location on a PC-based system at our Eastleigh depot,'' said Solent Blue Line's managing director Malcolm Venn.
"The trials are with a view to Solent Blue Line investing in a system which will complement the mobile telephone communication we maintain with drivers.
"We see satellite-based vehicle location monitoring as an ideal system for pro-active intervention when traffic congestion delays services. We believe it will offer better management of our resources and improve on-time performance of our services.''
