It's been a long wait but Richard Elmes, crowned Hampshire champion last June, steps up to make his South East Counties Golf League debut for the county against Kent at Royal St George's on Sunday.
When the Stoneham clubman lifted the county title last year, the Hampshire team was set in stone. There was no way in as former captain Lionel Smith kept faith with the team which went on to win the SE League title for the third year running.
But now with Darren Henley turned professional ranks and three more players, Martin Young, James Knight and David Porter involved in the Hampshire Hog on Sunday, Elmes is called up along with former champion, Channel Islander Bobby Eggo, who hasn't figured in recent years.
Hampshire team: Kevin Weeks (captain) and Jon Young (Brokenhurst Manor), Ryan Henley, Andy Bow and Richard Elmes (Stoneham), Tim Markwick (South Winchester), Bobby Eggo (Royal Guernsey), David Butwell (Lee-on-Solent).
