YACHTSMAN Alex Alley is looking forward to fulfilling a lifelong ambition when he takes part in the Global Challenge round the world yacht race next year.
The 32-year-old has won a coveted place in the gruelling ten-month race and is now on a mission to raise the £26,750 berthing fee needed to take part.
It's a dream come true for the father-of-two of Segensworth Road, Titchfield.
Ever since he took up sailing at the age of 12 Alex has wanted to take part in the race with stop-off points at Boston, Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town and La Rochelle.
"I am looking forward to being outside all that time and the adrenaline rush," he said. "I have raced a lot of big boats but this is going to be the biggest challenge by far, racing alongside a crew of 17 strangers."
Now Alex is concentrating on raising sponsorship. He has been helped on his way by Fitness First in Fareham along with many friends and colleagues.
