THE shoe-urinating incident which forced the abondonment of the Wimborne Town versus Bashley reserve game has taken a sinister, new twist.
Twenty-one-year-old Portland-based referee Chris Brokenshaw, who went in at half-time to find his and his teenage assistant's shoes full of urine and the assistant's shirt collar ripped off, has received a threatening phone call in connection with the unsavoury events at Wimborne's Cuthbury ground on March 29.
Jewson Wessex League secretary Denis Emery confirmed: "The referee rang me on Saturday morning to say he'd had a threatening call on Friday night. He was quite upset about it. I rang Dorset Police and I believe Chris went to Weymouth Police Station on Sunday morning."
While police investigations are taking place, the Wessex League have directed both clubs to take the "necessary action" to root out the culprit(s).
Describing it as a "shameful incident," Emery said: "The complete disregard for another person's property and disgusting actions that took place show that we have persons that are not fit to be connected to a football club and therefore should not be connected with the Wessex League.
"I would ask that any person found responsible for acts such as these be dealt with severely and ensure they are not connected to this league again."
Brokenshaw had sent off Bashley's Jimmy Sheppard and Wimborne's Matt Hussey for violent conduct on 32 minutes of the Jewson Wessex Combination game.
Town responded by suspending Hussey for two games, but he has been reinstated until such time as the Hampshire and Dorset FA disciplinary departments have dealt with the dismissals, which could take up to a month while the paperwork is sorted.
With regard to the urinating incident, Bashley secretary Pete Plowman confirmed: "We are making our own investigations and working closely with the Wessex League, the Hampshire FA and Dorset Police.
"We don't know that someone connected with our club was responsible but, if that were the case, we would come down very heavily on them."
l A player suffered a suspected broken jaw when violence flared after a Sunday League game in Southampton on Sunday.
The 35-year-old was taken to Southampton General Hospital after being assaulted straight after a match between AALCO and The Englishman public house at Five Acre playing field, Rownhams.
Acting Det Insp Dave Morgan, of Shirley CID, said: "We believe it will be quite easy to identify the person who has committed this assault."
Witnesses are urged to call Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545, or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
