A MOTORCYCLIST died after crashing into the central reservation of the M27 near Southampton yesterday.
The 58-year-old, who has not been named but comes from Southampton, is believed to have lost control of his silver Yamaha near the Hamble river bridge between junctions eight and nine.
Police said the incident happened just before 3.20pm on the westbound carriageway.
Ambulance crews were called but declared the rider dead at the scene.
Police closed the westbound carriageway for more than two hours after the crash, with the eastbound down to one lane.
Traffic officers said two motorcycles had been seen travelling together just prior to the collision.
One was a green sports style and the second was a large capacity silver 'retro' style.
At the time of the crash, the green motorcycle was leading, with the silver following.Anyone who may have seen the collision or saw the two motorcycles is asked to contact PC Martin Lacey at Eastleigh traffic department on 0845 045 4545.
