LODDON Vale father-and-son bowls pair Doug and Trevor Morgan are the new Hampshire men's indoor champions.
Playing in county finals' day at the East Dorset club, Christchurch, they overcame Ron Akhurst and Mick Slade (Banister Park, Eastleigh) 29-24.
With Trevor at skip, they led 15-11 at 12 ends but then dropped a six to fall 17-15 behind - only to regain the initiative in spectacular style with a hot-shot eight on the following end.
That eased the Basingstoke duo 23-17 ahead, although Banister Park trimmed the margin to 27-24 on the 20th end.
County titles are nothing new to the Morgans. They won the triples in 2000 and 2001.
Other final results:- Singles: John Blair (Chawton Park) 21, Trevor Bailey (Havant) 8.
Triples: Peter Shearing, Bill Belcher, Adam Tidby (East Dorset) 17, Dave Moore, Brian Dibdin, Andy Anderson (Banister Park) 9.
Fours: Bill Belcher, Terry Chivers, Adam Tidby, Martyn Sekjer (East Dorset) 24, Ben Settle, Russell Gadd, Eric Hopgood, Neil O'Donovan (Palmerston) 10.
Senior two-wood triples: Rob Curtis, Peter Shearing, Alan Doughty (East Dorset) 26, Ivan Nutburn, Dave Edmonds, Ray Wilkinson (Atherley) 16.
Club captain and lead bowler John Ash collected the Trisham Trophy on behalf of Whitchurch club Longmeadow, winners of Hampshire League division two.
For more years than they care to remember, the club's men have propped up the table - but this winter they shocked the opposition by walking off with the title.
The regular appearance of skips Graham Standley, Andy Ross and Rod Rosier has been vital in Longmeadow's dramatic improvement.
Standley, the county's assistant manager and a former England international, and Ross, the British Isles indoor singles champion in 1985, have extensive experience with Hampshire's Liberty Trophy team.
Longmeadow treasurer Ron Birch said: "Having bowlers like Graham and Andy readily available has made all the difference. Not only have they played well but it has lifted others around them."
