A JUMP to the left, a step to your right, put your hands on your hips and bring your knees in tight ...

So goes the famous Time Warp song from the Rocky Horror Show - the cross-dressing theatrical spectacular that is in its 30th year and playing to packed houses at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton.

Daily Echo readers who signed up to our Let's Commit to Get Fit campaign were invited to learn the steps as a novel way of keeping in shape - and they were put through their paces by dance captain Andrew Margerison.

They were joined on stage by Neil and Christine Hamilton, who star as the narrators.

While Neil quipped that his wife's right arm is

particularly fit because she likes to use it to point when she's bossing people about, Christine explained he was more of an athlete than she.

"Neil is the great keep fit addict. He goes for a run every morning and he can do 50 press-ups. He's got thighs like iron - and has the best legs in our family.

"I do use a ski exercise machine at home but I haven't had much time lately as I'm a busy woman, I'm incapable of relaxing and I do strut around telling people what to do," she said.

Marc Clitheroe, 39, and Carol Riley, 38, from Burghclere Road, Weston were glad they came along for the Time Warp master class.

"It was great fun - I couldn't do it before so my friends will be really proud that I can now," said Carol.

Maureen Sofley, 63, from Chapel Road, West End, said: "I was a bit apprehensive beforehand but it was good fun and a bit of a challenge."

Valerie Green, 65, from Dene Road, Ashurst and her daughter Linda Clarke from Sutton Road, Totton both threw themselves into the routine.

While Dawn Stafford, 44, from Oakwood Drive, Lordswood is hoping to keep the dance theme going by joining a salsa class.

Kate Finnegan, 50, of Mendip Road, Millbrook will maintain her fitness with regular circuit training.
