Stars of the oche will be toeing the line in Portsmouth over two days as professionals and pub players mingle in a top competition.

The Golden Hind in Copnor Road, the Good Companion in Eastern Road and the Heron in Havant, all part of the Laurel Pub Company, will host the tournament which will see the likes of Phil "The Power" Taylor, darts legend John Lowe and local lad Andy Jenkins - who won the first regional final held in the South - to name but a few.

The UK Darts Open Championship has so far seen three regional qualifiers and 122 Laurel customers will battle it out with players such as the newly-crowned Ladbrokes.com World Champion John Part, Wayne Mardle and Phil Taylor for places at the UK Open Final at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton between May 30 and June 1, 2003.

Maureen Heffernan, Director of Communications for the Laurel Pub Company, said: "It's fantastic to have all these famous darts players competing with our customers. The previous regional qualifiers have been a huge success. Where else can you have the world champion play against someone who is in the local darts league other than in your local Laurel pub?"

The winner of each regional final will walk away with a cash prize of £4,000 and the top 64 entrants at each tournament will win cash prizes of between £2,500 and £50, ensuring that their names are added to the UK Open Order of Merit.

The Top 128 players in the merit table at the end of all the regional finals will be invited to the UK Open Final to compete for a total of £124,000 in prize money which will see the best darts players in the world compete live on Sky Sports.

Current leaders are Peter Manley, Phil Taylor and Andy Jenkins.

The competition takes place in all three pubs throughout Saturday, February 15 with the final staged in the Golden Hind on Sunday.
