BUILDING work on modern accommodation barracks at Tidworth Camp costing £50 million has started.
The new Lucknow Barracks will be built on the site of the 100-year-old Edwardian barracks, which have now been demolished.
The new building, which will accommodate a regiment of about 700 soldiers, will include a new battalion headquarters, company headquarters, a dining room and Junior Ranks club and single living accommodation for 500 soldiers. It is due to be completed by October 2004.
Single soldiers will live in three-storey blocks of six-room flats, each with individual en-suite shower rooms and a communal sitting room and kitchen-ette.
