FOUR people were injured in a head-on crash that closed a New Forest road for several hours.

A female casualty was taken to Southampton General Hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened on the A35, two miles west of Lyndhurst, at 6pm on Friday.

A police spokesman said a Vauxhall Corsa travelling east drifted on to the wrong side of the road and was in collision with a Peugeot 205.

A woman driving the Peugeot is understood to have suffered head injuries and is critically ill in hospital.
