The prestigious prize of a place at St Mary's stadium in the SFA Cup final still looms large for apparently invincible Winchester City after a rousing fightback against underdogs Colden Common.

Common took a shock lead through Lee Kelly but were overrun in the second half as doubles from Andy Forbes and Ian Mancey plus singles from Matt Bicknell and Steve Beeks ensured there would be no shock. Simon Stillwell struck from the spot for Common but the final scoreline of 6-2 sends out a strong message to other hopefuls.

Pirelli General put behind them their off-the-field troubles to earn a quarter-final place (at home to Winchester City). They defeated Blackfield & Langley Reserves 3-0 with Steve Trott, Gareth Compton and an own goal responsible.

Last season's losing semi-finalists Mottisfont led local rivals M&T Awbridge 3-0 at the interval and went on to win 6-2 with Alan Bunday hitting a hat-trick, Ian Bradwell, Mike Burgess and Scott Kemiss sharing the remainder.

Brendon's Paul Joyce grabbed them a lifeline with an equaliser five minutes from time after Wayne Allen had put Lyndhurst STJs in front. Lyndhurst's hero was 'keeper Lee Renyard who made a superb save from a penalty - and the follow-up. Although the teams began extra time, the match had to be abandoned as the light faded.

Postponed matches: Vosper Res v Vosper and Fawley v Bishops Waltham (Monday, December 30), Netley Central v Hamble ASSC Res and Q K Southampton (Saturday, December 28), Lyndhurst STJs v Brendon (January 11).

Full quarter-final draw: Brendon or Lyndhurst STJs v Mottisfont, Vosper or Vosper Res v Q K Soton or AFC Totton Res, Fawley or Bishop's Waltham v Netley or Hamble ASSC Res, Pirelli Gen v Winchester City. Ties to be played on or before Saturday, January 18.
