Lymington Town won the spot prize in Saturday's Hampshire League Premier Division contest against Stockbridge - and walked off with their first home win of the season.

Penalties influenced the outcome, one which Stockbridge missed in the first half and two which Lymington converted after the break.

It was Lymington's first win since their headline-making Hampshire Senior Cup success over AFC Totton.

But their manager, John Pyatt, admitted: "Stockbridge could have been 4-1 up at half-time. They missed a penalty and played some terrific football but we came back at them in the second half when one of our two penalties was probably a bit harsh on Stockbridge."

Billy Stride gave Lymington the lead, Stocks quickly hit back to equalise, then the game turned on those two penalty decisions, both awarded for fouls on Scott Metcalfe. Town skipper Malc Barry stepped up to convert both.

Premier Division form side Ringwood Town eked out another good result, a 1-1 draw with high-riding Vosper Thornycroft at Love Lane. Prolific scorer Carl Fleet turned provider to set up midfielder Nathan Hunt for Ringwood's goal.

Both Fleet and Andy Wright rounded the Vosper 'keeper and couldn't finish it off but, in a game full of chances for both sides, Vosper deserved their second-half equaliser with less than 15 minutes to go.

Poole Town blitzed troubled Brading 8-1 at Tatnum to move up into second place. Darren Elmes led the way with four goals, backed up by Jamie Holland with two. But the best strike of the afternoon came from Poole left back Carl Woodward, a terrific volley from a cross by Elmes.

East Cowes Vics are back in the winning habit after a bit of a lean run. They followed up a five-goal midweek victory over Pirelli General by beating Locks Heath 2-0 - both goals coming in the second half from Mark Watson and Adam Holbrook.

Laverstock & Ford and Overton United, the top two sides in Division 2, went head to head at The Dell and honours finished even at 1-1.

It was Laverstock who had the best of the first half and went in with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Paul Lucas, who scrambled the ball home from a corner. Laverstock were on the receiving end though after the break as the tide turned and Overton dominated affairs. They picked up a deserved equaliser from Leon Dalton.

Broughton changed their manager two weeks ago and haven't looked back. Paul Cullen stepped up from the reserves to boss the first team and they have since reeled off two wins, including Saturday's 3-1 conquest of Hamble Club.

The damage was done by Tim Rose, Dan Palmer and Lee Williams and the win, on the back of an eye-catching success at Southampton QK, eased the village side's relegation fears.
