A Winchester man has appeared in court on drugs charges following the fatal overdose of a 30-year-old in a block of flats in the city last summer.

Stuart Swann, of no fixed abode, was found dead in a corridor at Forder Court, St Cross Road, in July.

Scott Spiers (29), unemployed, of Forder Court, is charged with 18-year-old Amy Tilley, unemployed, now living in Cambridge, of supplying heroin, possession of the drug and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Spiers is also accused of allowing his flat to be used for the supply of heroin.

Tilley did not appear but Judge Patrick Hooton excused her after Winchester Crown Court heard she had no money for her fare there. However, he said Tilley must attend the next hearing, on February 10th, when he expected pleas to be taken.

Both defendants were granted conditional bail.
