Chris Marsden today previewed Saints' trip to struggling Leeds at the weekend and insisted: "Anything can happen."

The midfielder insists Saints have to forget Leeds' horrific home form when they face them at Elland Road on Saturday.

Under pressure Terry Venables has seen his injury-ravaged side lose six of their last seven league and cup matches at home.

They have suffered defeat in their last five Premiership matches at Elland Road to Arsenal (4-1), Liverpool (1-0), Everton (1-0), Bolton (4-2) and Charlton (2-1).

In fact their last league win at home was against Manchester United (1-0) on September 14.

But Marsden, who has missed only one of Southampton's 20 league and cup matches this season, says that dismal run which has put Venables' position in jeopardy means nothing.

Having gone six games without a win, Leeds hit back with a 3-0 demolition of Bolton on Monday and are looking to continue their resurgence against Saints.

Marsden said: "Leeds are coming into the game on the back of having won 3-0 away from home and they'll feel confident, but anything can happen.

"Although they have been struggling I've never found an easy game yet in this division - whether teams are at the top of the table or fighting at the bottom, there is always something to play for.

"There's no doubt that Leeds are a good side and have got some good players.

"But it is possible that teams can have a run of misfortune with things like injuries - it has happened to teams I've played in before and I'm sure it will happen again.

"But, touch wood, we've been OK with that but you know that a few injuries can soon decimate your squad and, in that respect, Leeds are no different to us."

Saturday's game will mark the halfway point in Southampton's Premiership season and, like most fans, Marsden is pleased with how it has gone so far.

But the team's vice-captain thinks there is still more to come from Gordon Strachan's team in the second half of the campaign.

"I'm pleased with our first half of the season but, as with everything, you have to say that we can do better and hope to do better," he said.

"Perhaps it would be nice to have more of the same from now on but I still don't think we've had much rub of the green, so perhaps a little bit more of that would be good."
