PUPILS in Hampshire schools are performing above the national average in tests for 11-year-olds, published results have shown.

The tests in English, maths and science have shown continued improvement in most schools. The county average was 242.1 and the national average was 234.

In all three subject areas, many Hampshire pupils achieved well over the national averages of 75 per cent in English, 73 per cent in maths and 86 per cent in science achieving level four.

In the Andover area, 15 schools achieved above the national average with aggregate scores.

Others achieved below the national average but recorded good results for individual subjects.

There are no results for schools with less than 10 eligible pupils.

Wallop Primary School, listed as one of the most improved schools in the country, had a top score of 300, with all pupils achieving level four in English, maths and science.

The other results were Stockbridge Primary School (282), St John the Baptist RC Primary School (281), Grateley Primary School (280), St Mary Bourne Primary School (279), Shipton Bellinger Primary School (279), Wherwell Primary School (271), Hurstbourne Tarrant Primary School (271), Overton Primary School (270), Clatford Primary School (268), Portway Junior School (266), King's Somborne Primary School (264), Andover C of E Primary School (250), Anton Junior School (247), Balksbury Junior School (241), St Peter's Appleshaw Primary School (225), Whitchurch Primary School (223), Shepherds Spring Junior School (217), Abbotts Ann Primary School (208), Vigo Junior School (208), Knights Enham Junior School (198) and Roman Way Primary School (185).

Cllr Don Allen, Hampshire's executive member for education, said: "Hampshire's key stage two results show continued high standards, with results above the national average.

"We are not complacent, however, and we regard this year's results as a good foundation for further improvement in future years.

"The performance booklet is a valuable tool for parents, giving information on test results and other aspects of our primary schools.

"But it is worth remembering they do not show the whole picture.

"The data does not highlight individual progress made by pupils, nor the progress made in other areas of the curriculum such as sport and music.

"Pupils' behaviour and their attitudes to learning are also not reflected through the figures."
