Gosport Borough climbed to the heady heights of third in the Jewson Wessex League last night while problems mounted for Blackfield & Langley.
The second-to-bottom Watersiders went down 4-1 at Privett Park against a fast-starting Gosport side, who raced ahead after only 76 seconds through Danny Sturman.
Neil Scammell - fresh from his match- winning hat-trick at Brockenhurst on Saturday - was again at his sharpshooting best.
He raced clear of the Blackfield defence to bury his 20th goal of the season after 21 minutes and burst through again nine minutes later to make it 3-0.
After Graham Lindsey had bagged a fourth with a far-post header in the 53rd minute, Gosport took their foot off the pedal, allowing Danny Mockridge to get one back with five minutes remaining.
By that time, beleaguered Blackfield were down to ten men - Dean Chapman shown a straight red for an off-the-ball incident.
