Aylesbury 1 Basingstoke Town 1

BASINGSTOKE Town extended their unbeaten run in the Ryman League top flight to six games when they drew at Aylesbury on Saturday.

Town manager Ernie Howe felt that was a fair result as his side came back from a goal down to earn a point thanks to Neville Roach's equaliser.

The home side gave Basingstoke a lot of respect early on and Kevin Gibbens came closest to scoring for the visitors.

Aylesbury then had a chance through Joe Baker but Scott Tarr was equal to it.

Just before the break, Tarr was called on again to make sure it remained 0-0 at half-time.

First, he tipped over an Alex Stanley header and then he did well to keep out a Craig Maskell strike soon after.

After the break, Aylesbury took the lead as Baker found Maskell, who beat the advancing Tarr to make it 1-0 after 53 minutes.

Town hit back and Gibbens set up Craig McAllister, whose shot beat Chris Day only to come back off the crossbar.

However, the visitors were not to be denied and on 69 minutes Roach made the most of some bad defending to beat Day from close-range.

After that, both teams had chances but neither side added to their tally.

Town boss Howe said: "I felt we could have done more early on but we are not going to win every game. It was good to see us come back after going a goal down."

With no new injury worries, Howe has the same squad to pick from for tomorrow night's trip to Bishop's Stortford in the third round of the Bryco Cup.
