A MAN is being treated for life-threatening injuries after a motorway collision in the fog.

The man, who had been travelling from Southampton to London, was one of three people pushing a blue Honda Civic from the outside lane of the northbound M3, near Kempshott, towards the hard shoulder after the car suffered mechanical failure.

A BMW 3-series, driven by a Basingstoke woman, was involved in a collision with the Honda, injuring two of the people pushing it.

One of the men had a broken leg and head injuries, while the other suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the neurological unit in Southampton.

Pc Matt Dunlop, of Basingstoke police, said: "The weather was awful. When we were trying to shut the motorway to make the scene safe, we noticed that many people were still driving too fast for the conditions, and three or four other motorists were almost involved in the accident - although I am not suggesting this was the cause.

"I must remind people to take care when driving in the fog."

Anyone with any information about the accident should call Pc Dunlop at Basingstoke police on 0845 045 4545.
