Lymington & New Milton's title hopes were dealt another blow on Saturday when they were soundly beaten 3-0 at lowly Moneyfields - the Linnets' second successive away defeat in the league.

It was only a fortnight ago that Lymington lost their tag of invincibility in a 3-1 reverse at nearby Gosport Borough and, if you include last weekend's 5-4 Vase victory at Willand Rovers, they have now shipped an alarming ten goals in their last three away matches.

Moneyfields boss Calvin Hore said: "I'm very, very pleased because all of our players' attitudes were spot on today and we were easily three goals better than them.

"The scoreline certainly doesn't flatter us and, although I am very pleased, I'm frustrated as well because the players have shown me today how they can play and we need to start doing that every week."

The Moneymen took the lead after 18 minutes when Danny Boyle hit a terrific 20-yarder which flew into the top corner of the net - and they doubled their money early in the second half when Lee Mould broke clear to beat the 'keeper with a low shot.

The points were safely banked late on when Gavin Jones hoisted in a corner-kick which James Dunk nodded home from close range.

Second-placed Lymington's surprise setback means that league leaders Eastleigh pull four points clear at the summit after napping the Daily Echo team of the month for November Alton Town 5-1 at Ten Acres.

Two early strikes helped put Paul Doswell's team on the road to victory - Robbie Matthews heading in the first on 13 minutes with Jimmy Anderson doubling their tally two minutes later.

Anderson notched his second and Eastleigh's third after 34 minutes when he converted Stuart Kenna's cross before David Laws' through ball put Matthews clear to score his second of the game just after half-time.

Although Lewis Field managed to reduce the arrears for Alton after 74 minutes, Eastleigh had the final word in the last minute when Kevin Reacord's deflected shot beat the 'keeper.

Totton ended a nightmare eight days and three back-to-back defeats with a battling 3-2 victory at Bournemouth Poppies to reclaim third place in the JWL table.

Manager Ian Robinson said: "We've managed to stop the rot and get the result we badly needed after the last week or so.

"It was a much-changed side again today due to injuries. Chris Marwood and Darren Curtis have both come in and made their debuts for us."

After a goalless first half, Poppies led early in the second when Lewis Till cut in from the left to bury a low drive past 'keeper Wayne Shaw.

Totton replied almost immediately with a well-taken strike by Patrick James and then took the lead after 56 minutes when Mark Osman's shot was deflected into the path of recent signing Ben Thomson, who was left with a simple tap-in.

Poppies levelled in the 70th minute when good work by Till saw him find Mark Dancer who fired his shot under Shaw - only for Totton to grab a winner three minutes later when James netted from the penalty spot after Martin Whiddett had been upended.

Portland slip from third to seventh after a last-gasp strike sentenced them to a 1-0 defeat at BAT.

"Although we needed a last-minute goal, we absolutely battered them in the second half and we deserved to take the three points," said BAT boss Andy Leader.

"It was important for us to win today, especially with the league table being so tight, and it keeps us where we want to be which is near the top six after sliding down in the past few weeks. I feel that we are back on track now. We were a lot tighter today and we've kept our shape well and kept a clean sheet. It's a big win for us."

Substitute Richard Gregory climbed off the sub's bench to land the BAT match-winner, Dave Puckett and Dean Platt combining well to find the teenager, who slipped his shot past the Portland 'keeper.

Managerless AFC Newbury ended a run of seven successive league defeats in style by blowing away Blackfield & Langley 6-1 at Faraday Road.

The Berkshire side toasted doubles by Steve Watt and Nigel Emsden plus a Geoff Neville effort and a Danny Walsh own goal, the Watersiders replying through Simon Davison.

Blackfield's Tony Feeney said: "We started well enough, had a goal disallowed and created three or four other good chances but then conceded two quick goals.

"I'd like to see us take the lead and then see how the lads respond, but at the moment I just need to keep the squad focussed."
