SOUTHAMPTON docks will be alive with the sound of music when legendary singing star, Dame Julie Andrews, pictured, officially names the new ultra-luxurious cruise ship, Crystal Serenity in the port next year.
As godmother of Crystal Serenity, Julie Andrews will christen the ship with the traditional breaking of a bottle of champagne against the vessel's hull in the city on July 3.
After the glittering quayside ceremony there will be a gala evening to raise money that will benefit a charity chosen by the entertainer.
The 68,000-ton Crystal Serenity, now nearing completion in France, will accommodate up to 1,080 and is the third ship in the Crystal Cruises' fleet which is regularly voted some of the most sumptuous vessels afloat today.
Company president Gregg Michel said: "It is a joy and honour for everyone at Crystal Cruises to have Julie Andrews send our glorious new ship into service.''
Oscar-winning actress Julie has starred in many films including The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
