FORDINGBRIDGE broke the Isle of Wight's record of not conceding any points but Adam Dennett's penalty strike was not enough to prevent Richard Beardsall's side from making it eight out of eight in a dour game at the Recreation ground.

There was no abundance of flair or excitement as both sides concentrated their minds on defending, but the result sees the Island side open up a four-point lead at the top of Hampshire Two ahead of Fawley, who were without a game.

Ellingham & Ringwood are back in the shake up after their blip as they hammered local rivals Portcastrians 31-6, while Lytchett Minster made sure they had company in the chase by beating Fleet.

But, probably most surprising of all is the decline of Ventnor, who just three years ago missed out narrowly on promotion to London Division Four South-West instead of US Portsmouth. Their 10-5 reverse to Alresford has dropped them to second-bottom and in danger of a trip to Hampshire Three instead.

In Hampshire Division Three, Kingsclere are the new leaders on points difference from Overton, after they recorded the first 50 point tally in the league this season.

But Paxton Pumas are up to third as their weakened side held on for a 6-6 draw with Stoneham Park. Ian Earles slotted the two penalties for the Locks Heath-based side.
