THE jury in the trial of Basingstoke psychiatrist Christopher Allison will today continue their deliberations.

Allison, 60, formerly of Skippetts Lane West, Basingstoke, and now living in Suffolk, has pleaded not guilty to 18 charges involving eight women, two of which were patients he treated in Basingstoke.

He is accused of five rapes, one attempted rape, and 12 indecent assaults.

The prosecution has alleged at his trial, at Winchester Crown Court, that he committed offences first while working in Canterbury, Kent, and then in Basingstoke.

In evidence, Allison repeatedly denied the allegations that he had sexually assaulted vulnerable women patients who had come to him for treatment.

Judge Patrick Hooton has told the jury - who began considering their verdicts on Thursday afternoon - that two further charges of rape and two of indecent assault against Allison had been dropped.

The case continues.
