FERRY company Red Funnel was criticised at a meeting of the Isle of Wight Council's executive committee this week after it was revealed that the firm had declined to provide funds to help pay for a new park-and-ride bus service into Cowes.
The council had hoped part of the £100,000 cost of running the scheme would be paid for by the ferry giant. But the firm turned down the authority's request for the cash.
Now the scheme, which would have helped relieve parking problems and traffic jams in Cowes every morning, has been put on hold until funds can be found to pay for it.
The Island's highways boss, Steve Matthews, said: "The fact of the matter is Red Funnel are not willing to put any money in the pot."
Councillor Reg Barry said: "We have a quality partnership. Red Funnel have stopped talking to us. What has come out of this quality partnership?"
