MONEY is pouring in to the Asthma, Allergy and Inflammation Research (Aair) charity after the Daily Echo launched its Fight for Breath campaign to save the organisation's free clinics.

We highlighted the plight of the asthma and allergy drop-in sessions, which offer a lifeline to thousands of sufferers in Southampton and beyond, but they are facing closure in the new year because of a £30,000 shortfall.

So far the charity has collected more than £3,000 from public donations, fundraising events and street collections, which is enough to keep the clinics, run by specialist nurse and fellow asthmatic Chellan Eames, going until the end of January.

Fundraising director for Aair Caroline Pope said: "People keep sending in cheques and someone wrote a letter saying 'Chellan's changed my life 100 per cent. They mustn't go'.

"And we've got £2,000 from a pharmaceutical company, so we've got about £3,000 altogether - that will probably see us through to the end of January.

"But I think we're going to have a few more things through so we will hopefully have enough until the end of February.

"But the cheques are coming in, and thanks to the people who have sent the money in so far."
