The Westgate Hotel in Romsey Road, Winchester, has been awarded four diamonds by the AA for its "superb accommodation, food, atmosphere and service".
The award is the latest in a series of accolades which the Eldridge Pope licensees, Helen and Guy Carpenter, have garnered since reopening the hotel in 1999.
With the help of staff and manager, Nick Wilson, the Carpenters have worked tirelessly and the AA award is proof that they've got it right.
The hotel features eight bedrooms, six en-suite, all traditionally decorated and named after local famous people.
The AA inspector was especially complimentary about the warm welcome and also highlighted the quality and comfort of the rooms.
He also praised the food and paid special reference to the local sausages and fresh bread. The couple try to use local produce whenever possible, a fact welcomed by chef, Eric Austin.
