"Shouting for Scouting" was the slogan advertised by Richard Merefield, Hampshire Scout's County Commissioner at Lyndhurst Community Centre.
He was there for the presentation of 29 Chief Scout's Award certificates.
Many of the award-winners had assisted with Beaver or Cub Sections; some helped at school literacy classes and others taught younger people how to canoe.
One taught a party of children from Chernobyl, helping them acquire First Aid and rescue skills, assisting at Scout campsites, working at a charity shop and helping in various capacities at their churches.
Dr Julian Lewis MP for New Forest East, who handed them out, spoke of how impressed he was by the huge range of achievements listed, saying that the Scouts represented a cross section of all that was fine in their communities.
He praised the contribution of parents and Scouters and spoke of the value of the award in applying for further education and at job interviews.
Most of the recipients planned to continue with their Scouting and to go into higher education.
Mr Merefield, who presented Dr Lewis with an engraved goblet, spoke about the recent developments in Scouting and the forthcoming World Jamboree in Thailand, to which some of the certificate recipients would be going as part of the 108-strong Hampshire contingent.
