More than 100 proud young people from across Hampshire have celebrated a range achievements from their commitment to the UK Youth Parliament to completing Duke of Edinburgh awards at a gala awards evening.
Hampshire County Council's Youth Service Celebration of Achievement recognised an enormous range of personal challenges, volunteer work and learning achievements.
Among the 166 recipients were six young people from Basingstoke who had travelled to Mali in Africa to complete community work; eight from Eastleigh who were awarded for their contribution over the last two years to a project which has led to a new skateboard ramp being installed in Glebe Meadow recreational ground, and a group of boys from Fareham who have all become sailing instructors.
Several youth workers and support staff working for Hampshire County Council's Youth Service were also rewarded after attending courses and demonstrating exceptional achievements.
The celebrations, which took place in The Great Hall, Winchester, included a colourful and musical programme of entertainment from young people in dance, drumming and juggling.
Executive county councillor for education, Don Allen, said: "This event is a great chance to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful achievements of young people and youth service staff involved in a vast range of youth projects across the county. Everyone should be proud of their hard work and personal achievements. I'm also pleased to see our own staff being rewarded. Much of the success of young people is due to the hard work of our highly-qualified team of youth workers."
