MOTORISTS were caught up in traffic chaos on Friday afternoon following a serious accident on the A34.
A lorry and tractor were in collision on the road between Bullington Cross and Whitchurch just after 1pm. Following the collision, the lorry then struck the central reservation.
The driver was seriously injured in the accident and Winchester firefighters broke their strike to free the man from the wreckage.
Retained crews from Whitchurch and Sutton Scotney also attended.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital by the Berkshire air ambulance. The 51-year-old from Bedford is still recovering at Southampton General Hospital. His injuries were considered serious, but are not life-threatening.
Diversions were set up throughout the afternoon causing huge tailbacks before the road was reopened.
