FIREFIGHTERS in Hampshire were called to 19 serious road accidents where they cut free the occupants of 14 vehicles during a 48-hour period last Thursday and Friday.
Crews broke their strike to attend accidents nine times, while the other accidents were dealt with by retained and wholetime crews.
Military crews attended three road accidents in the county during the same period.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has said this dramatic increase is above the seasonal rise that occurs which the onset of autumn and winter.
Deputy chief fire officer Alan House is urging motorists to take greater care. He said: "At this time of the year, driving conditions can change very quickly.
"Drivers must watch out for heavy rain, floods, fog and ice and drive safely to suit the road conditions."
